Castlemaine-Boy > Generalfeldmarschall Friedrich Paulus - Commander of the German 6th Army at Stalingrad. Paulus became infamous for surrendering to the Russians on 31.01.1943, despite Hitler's 'desire' he commit suicide rather than allow himself to be taken prisoner. Sadly, of the nearly 350,000 men who he commanded Stalingrad, only 90,000 survived to surrender to the Soviets.
Castlemaine-Boy > SS-Rottenfuhrer - 3 SS Pz Gren Div 'Totenkopf'. This grenadier wears the "Ostmedaille" (East Medal) or "Russian Front Medal" ribbon. This award was introduced on the 26th of May 1942 to recognize those who participated in the first winter of Operation Barbarossa (the invasion of the Soviet Union).
